The North Dakota House soundly defeated HB 1440 on February 13, 2009, the proposed repeal of North Dakota’s 40-year-old law that requires pharmacies to be majority-owned by a pharmacist. The House Bill went down on a 57-35 vote.
"In many communities the local pharmacist is the only health care provider there is. They help the people and give them the advice they need on a daily basis." (Rep. Jim Kasper, Fargo)
"I can't stand up here and tell you that 70 pharmacies would close if we passed this bill because I don't know that, but I do know that in our small rural communities their health care system is already struggling." (Rep. Robin Weisz, Hurdsfield)
Thank you for your passion and dedication in helping keep the pharmacy ownership law in North Dakota. Please thank your Representative(s) for voting against the bill.
